Biography
Hello! My name is Alanna, and I am a photographer and mixed media artist from New Jersey.
Photographing and memorializing a moment has always been a priority of mine. As a child, I’d snatch the family camera or my grandmother’s flip phone to wander around and take pictures of what was most important - my family, my dog, the apple tree in the yard I grew up in.
Without knowing it at the time, I had preserved some family memories that would eventually be lost in one of many moves out of state.
Grief and loss motivated me to focus on the importance of the ability to not only aesthetically display a moment through a photograph, but for the viewer to experience an emotional reaction - whether it be intentionally conveyed or be the viewer’s interpretation.
Artistic exploration of loss and change refined my photographic eye. At a shoot, candid moments are what reminds me of why I enjoy what I do.
I want you to remember the little things about a special day; the first few moments on stage at a show, the look of your loved ones as they celebrate you, the interactions that fall into the background of an event - the ones you’d miss if you weren’t paying attention.
Digital and Film Photography
Events, portraits, landscapes, wildlife
Candid photography is my preferred method of shooting events as a way for true emotions and behind-the-scenes moments to unfold. It is my goal to remain unseen, allowing for the rawest, most authentic scenarios and self-expression.
Personal Work
Miniature Photography and Mixed Media
During a difficult creative block I had run out of ideas and local parks to shoot for my darkroom classes. This sparked an interest in using photos for collages, something I had little experience with, but had quickly grew an attachment for once revisiting. After some time I did the same with miniature model sets as a way to create my own photographic scene.
Staging miniature sets allows for more access to a wide range of props and locations that may otherwise be inaccessible for me at the time of shooting. My goal is to create and capture these environments to share a personal experience or conjure up my own new ones.
In recent years the satisfaction I feel from photography comes from the opportunities to provide someone with joy as they remember the moment they allow me to be a part of.
